Slaves had significantly more freedom and rights under the Spaniards than under the Americans. There was never a genocide under Spanish rule. American territories under the Kings and Queens of Spain were viceroyalties. Spanish people merged with the indigenous populations in the Americas, resulting in the largest mixture of races in centuries, and for centuries to come.
Universities, hospitals, and governments were established, eventually achieving autonomous development and full independence.
Protestant colonialism, on the other hand, attempted to eradicate every non-WASP population they encountered.
